Profile | Charlotte Allen

Charlotte L. Allen specializes in the practice of family law and estate planning, including appeals. Ms. Allen has completed the Probate and Estate Planning Certificate Program through the Institute for Continuing Legal Education. She has been a member of the Family Law Section Council of the State Bar of Michigan and a member of the Children's Law Council. Charlotte is a member of the Family Law, Children's Law, Probate and Estate Planning Section and the Appellate Practice Sections. She has chaired the State Bar Special Committee on Domestic Violence.  Ms. Allen has served as Chair of the Children’s Law Section, as well as Secretary and Treasurer of the Family Law Section.  She is a Fellow of the Michigan State Bar Foundation. 

Ms. Allen has authored a number of brief amici for the Family Law and Children's Law Sections, including Staple v Staple and In re AMB. Ms. Allen is also a member of the American Bar Association Family Law and Law Practice Management Sections and the Northeast Michigan Estate Planning Council. She has chaired the Family Law Section's Domestic Violence Committee from 1996 through 2007. Ms. Allen has served as treasurer of the Mid-Michigan Children's Law Council. Ms. Allen serves on a number of community boards, including the Salvation Army Advisory Board, and serves on one of United Way’s program allocation committees and volunteers for the “Ask the Lawyer” program. She is a past president of the Midland County Bar Association and was a founding member of the Midland Alliance for Justice, a pro bono organization providing representation for low-income county residents in domestic relations and landlord-tenant cases. Ms. Allen has published articles in the "Michigan Bar Journal," the "Michigan Family Law Journal," and the "University of Michigan Children's Law Journal." She served as an editor of the Michigan Judicial Institute's "Domestic Violence Benchbook," has taught continuing legal education seminars for a number of organizations around the state, including the Institute for Continuing Legal Education, and has contributed a chapter on Friend of the Court for "Michigan Family Law" (ICLE 6th ed 2004).
